Where specific licence terms accompany a dataset, tile set, download, service or deliverable, those terms take precedence over these general website terms in relation to that material.

The display, visualisation or demonstration of terrain data on Quantizedmesh.com does not by itself grant any right to download, reproduce, extract, redistribute, resell or commercially exploit that data.

Data licensing & derivative terrain

QuantizedMesh.com is a custom, independently engineered terrain product created through the processing, transformation and integration of multiple established elevation datasets. Terrestrial source data used within the production pipeline includes Copernicus DEM GLO-30 (COPDEM 30), NASA/USGS Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data (SRTM 30 and SRTM 90), and ASTER Global Digital Elevation Model data. These datasets provide source elevation measurements; they are not simply redistributed by QuantizedMesh.com in their original form. The QuantizedMesh.com production pipeline performs substantial additional processing, including source selection and integration, validation, reprojection and coordinate handling, terrain triangulation, feature-aware geometry generation, tile-boundary processing, coastline treatment, bathymetric integration, quantization, generation of rendering metadata and encoding into Cesium Quantized Mesh terrain tiles. The resulting global tileset and its production pipeline therefore constitute a separately engineered derivative/value-added terrain product, while all rights and attribution applicable to the underlying source datasets remain with their respective providers.

Copernicus DEM GLO-30 is supplied under the Copernicus WorldDEM-30 Full, Free & Open licence. That licence grants worldwide, non-exclusive rights to reproduce, distribute and communicate the data to the public and, importantly for this product, expressly permits its adaptation, modification and combination with other data and information. The licence also states that the provider does not claim intellectual-property rights obtained by a user through the user's own work while exercising those licensed rights. The underlying Copernicus DEM intellectual-property rights nevertheless remain with their respective owners, and modified products must retain the prescribed source acknowledgement.

SRTM 30 and SRTM 90 originate from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission conducted by NASA and partners and distributed through U.S. government channels including USGS. USGS states that USGS-authored or produced data and information are generally in the U.S. public domain and may be freely used, while requesting appropriate source acknowledgement. More generally, U.S. federal works produced by federal employees as part of their official duties are not subject to U.S. copyright under 17 U.S.C. §105. NASA's current scientific-data policy similarly states that NASA-led mission data without a restrictive notice or specific licence are released under CC0, while users should still cite the original source.

ASTER GDEM was jointly developed from ASTER observations through the NASA/METI programme and is made available at no charge pursuant to the agreement between METI and NASA. NASA's official ASTER documentation identifies the appropriate provenance as NASA/METI/AIST/Japan Spacesystems and the U.S./Japan ASTER Science Team and provides a formal citation for ASTER GDEM V3. QuantizedMesh.com acknowledges those organisations as the providers and creators of the underlying ASTER elevation product.

Accordingly, QuantizedMesh.com does not claim ownership of COPDEM, SRTM or ASTER source data. It claims only its independently developed processing software, integration methodology and rights that may arise in the resulting value-added/derivative terrain product. Source datasets remain subject to their respective licences, acknowledgements and intellectual-property notices. Use of those source names does not imply endorsement, sponsorship or affiliation with their respective agencies or organisations.
